Art is Moving keeps busy pushing an ARTcart from city to city and street corner to street corner, by posting interesting art related information and opinions on our blog, planning and executing exhibitions, interviewing artists state by state, video interviewing various artists and art viewers, as well as short term community art projects that you can read about below.

ARTcart!

ARTcart is for everyone. It is a space for freedom of expression about home, art, identity, culture and unity. We believe that art is a powerful tool for communication. Those who partake will find they learn something about themselves and the world around them. ARTcart is for conversation, for dialog about what the community wants and/or needs. Come and join the conversation.

I am An Artist

From October 2009 through January 2012 Art is Moving will be on a virtual tour of the United States in search of artists to interview. Each month we will travel via cyber space to connect and interview artists living in a particular state.

CLICK HERE to view the artists using our interactive map.

This project was started in hopes of connecting the contemporary art world with itself and the wider public. We hope that through these interviews we can instigate conversations about art, being an artist, living in today's world as an artist, the role of an artist in our society and the future of the art world. We hope this network of artists keeps growing and growing. If you are interested in being interviewed contact us by CLICKING HERE.

Art is Moving Video Collection

Along with interacting with folks online through our website, twitter, facebook, and our blog, we also spend a great deal of time meeting artists, visiting art exhibitions, participating in community art projects and more. We have a growing collection of videos that capture our experiences and discussions about art. We interview artists about their own work, capture our dialogs about particular artworks, and have also spoken with random strangers on the street corner that are willing to give us their opinion about art. The Red Door Gallery and Collective

From August 2008-August 2009 Lauren and Lisa teamed up with another 8 artists to co-found and run a community art gallery located in Oakland, CA. The Red Door Gallery and Collective curated and exhibited 12 original shows, many of which were co-curated by Lauren and Lisa. The Collective and gallery received positive attention from the community and the local press. Specific exhibitions like Art and the Body Politick and Insights of Life from the Shadows of Death received art critic reviews. (click on the titles to read the press)

The Art is Free and Priceless Project

This project was organized in 2005 and held at the Ashby Flea Market on Saturdays and Sundays. A space was rented and a table was set up with paper, paint, brushes, and other art making tools. Everyone was invited to come and make art for free!

1,000 Hearts and Hands

I began this project to create a homage to creativity and how art transcends all boundaries. I will convey the process in the near future. I wanted to share with you a witness's story to the exhibition. Read below--Thank you Melissa for expressing your subjective experience.
